In addition to key entry a number of edits can be executed at the time of entry. Data fields can validated against master files while the operators are keying data. Additionally data can be retrieved from master files while keying and made a part of the data record. For example, a doctor's name and address can be retrieved from a master file and made a part of the data record or even checked against the document image by typing in the provider identification number on a health claim.
